What Montgomery Whitewater’s new statement means for the park’s future
Reading time: 3 minutes

Montgomery Whitewater has released an official statement directly addressing the conclusion of its 2026 season, following recent local discussion and continued financial backing from the Montgomery County Commission.
The 120-acre outdoor adventure destination, including all on-site amenities, is temporarily closed after operations wrapped up on Sept. 8, shortly after the Labor Day holiday and ahead of its typical late-fall seasonal transition.
Located at 1100 Maxwell Blvd, the park sits just steps from downtown Montgomery and nearby Maxwell Air Force Base along the Interstate 65 corridor.
Montgomery Whitewater turns focus to maintenance + long-term goals

In a statement shared over the weekend, park leadership provided details regarding the early shutdown, explaining that the extended timeframe will give staff room to complete necessary park maintenance and focus on long-term strategy.
“Montgomery Whitewater ended the 2026 season following the Labor Day holiday on September 8. Closing at this time will allow us to complete necessary maintenance while also planning for the future,” the organization shared on social media.
“Three years of operation have given us a clearer picture of what it takes to run a facility of this scale and the modifications necessary for its long-term success. That work is already underway.”
The timing aligns with recent actions taken by local government leaders. Just last week, the Montgomery County Commission approved its $183 million Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget, which allocated $500,000 to the Montgomery County Community Cooperative District to continue supporting the park. County officials noted that the pause serves as an opportunity to review operations and explore a potential rebrand.
What’s next for Montgomery Whitewater ahead of 2027 reopening

Looking forward to a planned Spring 2027 reopening, park leadership expressed optimism about building a more sustainable model for the surrounding region.
“As we look ahead, we are focused on operating more efficiently, creating new reasons to visit and investing further in the experiences that already draw people here,” the statement continued. “We’re grateful for the support Montgomery has shown from the beginning. The next several months are a critical part of a new and more successful future for Montgomery Whitewater as we strive to better serve the community.”
Montgomery UP will track developments and announcements from park leadership as plans for the park’s next season take shape.
