Red Lobster is closing its longtime Montgomery restaurant, the only location in the River Region.

The seafood chain has had a presence in the capital city for several decades, marking a wrap on its popular endless shrimp options and iconic Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

Located at 300 Eastdale Circle just off Atlanta Highway, the brand confirmed the eatery will cease operations at the close of business on Sunday, Sept. 6. The chain once operated a location on East South Boulevard before relocating to its current home.

The upcoming Red Lobster closure comes as a bit of a surprise to locals, especially after the Montgomery restaurant recently received a fresh exterior paint job.

When reached for comment on the closure, corporate representatives shared this statement:

“As part of our normal course of business, Red Lobster continuously evaluates individual restaurant performance and lease terms and may, from time to time, choose to close select restaurants. This closure reflected specific decisions tied to the unique operating conditions at this restaurant. We remain committed to making thoughtful decisions that position Red Lobster for long-term success, stability and growth.”

Commercial changes near Eastdale Mall + where to go next

This exit marks another commercial blow to the immediate area. Red Lobster sits just outside Eastdale Mall, a retail hub that has faced a series of recent retail losses. The mall lost one of its primary anchor tenants in December 2024 when At Home closed, a space that still sits vacant today. This was followed by the departure of its final remaining food court tenant earlier this year, though a few dining options remain scattered inside the center.

Once the doors close in early September, Montgomery-area seafood lovers will have to travel a bit further for their Red Lobster fix. The news comes after the chain shuttered its historic Vestavia Hills restaurant earlier this year, leaving the closest remaining locations in Birmingham and Dothan.
