New nursing simulation lab taking shape at Faulkner University

Faulkner University is continuing its expansion of its College of Health Sciences, transforming a former Montgomery shopping center located adjacent to Faulkner’s main campus into a hub for medical education.
Here is a closer look at the project and what it means for healthcare training in Montgomery.
How Faulkner’s new simulation lab will serve local healthcare workers
Work got underway over the past few months after building permits were approved for 5449 Atlanta Highway. The space previously housed the Montgomery County East Satellite Probate Office, which closed last fall following the end of its lease.
The new addition will feature an expanded healthcare simulation lab for Faulkner University’s nursing program, which officially launched in Fall 2025.
According to university officials, students will learn patient care using top-of-the-line simulation technology equipment. But the impact goes beyond campus boundaries: Faulkner will share the center with local healthcare workers, physicians, therapists, nurses and first responders receiving critical annual training through Faulkner’s Partnering in Alabama for Training in Healthcare (PATH partnership).
A completion timeline for the new lab was not immediately available.
Transforming the former Montgomery Plaza East retail hub
Formerly known as Montgomery Plaza East, the center sits right alongside the university and previously housed several major retailers. That included Burlington Coat Factory, which relocated to EastChase in 2019.
In 2020, Faulkner University purchased the plaza and began redeveloping the property, turning the former Burlington space into a state-of-the-art College of Health Sciences building.
Today, the transformation continues as other businesses relocate from the strip. Beauty & Beyond, for example, is relocating across the street.
With every phase of construction, the university is reimagining a commercial retail space into a modern training ground for students.
