A longtime staple of Montgomery’s footwear scene is packing up and heading across town. Journeys, the trendy footwear and apparel retailer that has called Eastdale Mall home for decades, is officially relocating.

The retailer confirmed to Montgomery UP that it will move to The Shoppes at Eastchase later this summer. Work is already well underway at its future home, with storefront signage officially signaling the upcoming arrival.

Where to find the new Journeys location in Montgomery

Journeys will be taking over the space previously occupied by Champs Sports, located at 6824 Eastchase Parkway A105. Champs closed its doors in January 2024, and the prominent storefront has sat vacant until now.

While Journeys built its brand identity as an indoor mall destination for skate shoes, boots, and streetwear, this move reflects a broader nationwide trend. Over the last decade, the chain has increasingly ventured into outdoor lifestyle centers and power centers to meet changing consumer shopping habits.

How consumer shopping habits are reshaping Montgomery retail

The relocation of Journeys marks yet another blow to Eastdale Mall, which has faced a tough season of vacancies. The loss comes right on the heels of the mall recently losing its very last remaining food court tenant. As long-term inline tenants migrate toward outdoor developments, the retail landscape in Alabama’s capital city continues to shift further east.

An exact opening date for the new Eastchase storefront has not yet been publicly announced, but shoppers can expect the transition to happen before summer wraps up.
