When you take a look at your work week agenda, it’s probably full of the usual suspects: meet with your manager, run that report and so much circling back that you get dizzy.

It’s not often that you get to step away from your desk, join forces with your coworkers and give back to the community you call home.

That’s exactly what a group of Montgomery Regions Bank employees got to do recently. It was part of the company’s Evergreen Week, and they weren’t alone: Nearly 400 employees statewide set their out of office status and dug deep to give back.

Here’s what the team united to accomplish in Montgomery and how and why it was a highlight of their year.

As part of Regions’ Evergreen Week activities this year, a team of five headed to Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB), a Montgomery-based non-profit that stretches across 35 Alabama counties with direct donations or connections to shared resources.

Together, Regions employees have accomplished quite a lot during their volunteer time at HAFB, including:

  • 1,060 food boxes packed
  • 22,958 meals served
  • 60 service hours
  • 90 burgers + hotdogs prepped for HAFB employees

“Our team had a wonderful opportunity to spend the day with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, preparing and serving lunch for its employees while also volunteering in the warehouse.

Throughout the day, associates helped evaluate, sort and pack food donations for distribution across the food bank’s 35-county service area.”

In addition to loading boxes with donations at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, you may also spot Montgomery Regions Bank employees trading in their business suits for tool belts.

Allison Bird, Central Alabama Sales Manager for Regions Mortgage, has logged the highest amount of volunteer hours for Montgomery Regions employees. She’s also been recognized for her outstanding community engagement and service with time spent at orgs like Habitat for Humanity, Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin and Regions’ Next Step financial wellness events.

“I find it very rewarding to serve others and give back in a small way. Being a part of the Montgomery Impact Network has given me the opportunity to partner with other Regions associates volunteering in the community.

I’m grateful to work for a company that values giving back. It allows the opportunity to connect with others in a meaningful way.  A small act of kindness can bring joy, hope and encouragement to someone who is going through a difficult time.”
