The City of Montgomery has reopened the Wares Ferry Road Bridge, bringing a vital northeast Montgomery thoroughfare back online well ahead of its original timeline.

Why the Wares Ferry Road Bridge was closed
The Wares Ferry Road Bridge initially closed to traffic on Dec. 18, 2025, after a structural assessment conducted by the city revealed safety risks. According to city officials, the bridge had sustained structural damage from repeated use by overweight vehicles that exceeded the posted three-ton weight limit.
To maintain traffic flow and keep drivers moving while repairs took place, local authorities put a dedicated detour route in place. The bridge serves as a well-traveled thruway for many daily commuters, school runs and visitors heading to nearby destinations like Wind Creek Montgomery.
Reopening ahead of schedule for Montgomery drivers
City planners originally anticipated a full one-year closure to complete the extensive structural upgrades safely. However, thanks to steady construction progress, crews wrapped up the work in just over seven months. This early completion allowed the bridge to reopen ahead of schedule, benefiting commuters, residents and local businesses alike.
