Looking for exciting Montgomery-area weekend events to fill your calendar? Highlighting this weekend’s lineup is a big in-state college football matchup, paired with live music, minor league baseball and family outings across the region.

Here are seven prime events happening in and around the capital city this weekend:

1. Troy Trojans vs. Alabama State Hornets

The Alabama State University Hornets travel down to Troy to face the Troy University Trojans at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3PM. Fans can secure game-day tickets online directly through Troy University Athletics Ticket Office. 2. Montgomery Biscuits vs. Biloxi Shuckers

Head over to DABOS Park (formerly Riverwalk Stadium) for minor league baseball as the Montgomery Biscuits continue their home series against the Columbus Clingstones. Every game features a distinct theme for fans:

  • Friday, Sept. 11 – 6:35PM: First Responders Night — Get tickets
  • Saturday, Sept. 12 – 6:05PM: Military Appreciation Night — Get tickets
  • Sunday, Sept. 13 – 1PM: Bark in the Park — Get tickets

3. Pottery in the Gardens: A Family Affair

Unwind with hands-on creativity in a gorgeous outdoor setting! This free, family-friendly workshop takes place on Saturday, Sept.12 from 10-11:30AM at the Montgomery Botanical Gardens Click to open side panel for more information at Oak Park (1010 Forest Ave). Participants of all ages can experiment with clay and ceramic arts while surrounded by local greenery.

4. PAWty in the Park at Rotary Park

Bring your furry best friend downtown on Saturday, September 12 from 10AM-2PM for PAWty in the Park. Hosted by Main Street Montgomery and Parks & Recreation at Rotary Park, this free event features pup splash pools, dog contests, local vendors and pet photo ops.

5. Hank Williams’ 103rd birthday celebration

Country music fans won’t want to miss this historic tribute on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3PM. Held at Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Montgomery and presented by the Hank Williams Museum, the event celebrates Hank Williams’ 103rd birthday with live country performances. 6. Grandparents’ Day at the Montgomery Zoo

Celebrate family on Sunday, September 13 at the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum from 9:30AM-3:30PM. In honor of Grandparents’ Day, all grandparents receive free admission to explore animal exhibits and spend quality time with their grandkids. View ticketing info here.

7. Trombone Shorty + Orleans Avenue at MPAC

Turn up the energy on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 7PM as GRAMMY-nominated icon Trombone Shorty brings his infectious blend of New Orleans funk, R&B and rock to the Montgomery Performing Arts Center. Tickets start at $47.50. Reserve your seats here.
