River Region United Way launches 2026 campaign: How to get involved

River Region United Way gathered local leaders and supporters at The Tipping Point in Hampstead on Thursday evening to kick off its 2026 fundraising campaign: United is the Way We Thrive.
This year’s effort is led by the organization’s first-ever all-women campaign co-chair duo, Charisse Stokes and Dr. Rhea Ingram. The kickoff brought together business leaders, community partners, volunteers and local supporters to unite around a shared vision for the River Region.

During the celebration, the organization unveiled an ambitious $2.2 million fundraising goal to fund vital programs across the area. Several pacesetter organizations were also recognized for their early efforts, having already raised $236,252.45 to set the tone for the season.

Meeting local needs so River Region families can thrive
The need for community investment across Central Alabama continues to grow. Right now, organizers say 50.2% of all households in the River Region fall below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold. These are hardworking individuals and families who earn above the federal poverty line yet still struggle to afford basic necessities such as housing, childcare, food, healthcare, transportation and technology.
To bridge this gap, the River Region United Way supports more than two dozen area nonprofits that provide life-changing resources every single day. Funds raised during the United is the Way We Thrive campaign will directly support River Region United Way’s 26 community partners.
These partner organizations deliver crucial support in four core areas:
- Youth opportunity: Empowering young people to reach their full potential
- Healthy communities: Expanding access to healthcare and essential wellness resources
- Financial security: Helping families build stability and long-term financial resilience
- Community resiliency: Preparing communities to withstand crises and unexpected challenges
This theme reflects a simple but powerful truth: that when leaders united around a shared purpose, lives are transformed and communities flourish. Together, we can build a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.
