A vacant commercial space on Eastern Boulevard won’t be empty much longer, and we now have new details on what’s coming! City permits and officials confirm that a brand-new American Red Cross blood donation center is officially heading to 1930 Eastern Blvd in Montgomery.

The double-suite building, located directly in front of Lowe’s, was constructed in the mid-2010s. Mattress Firm closed within a few years, and following AT&T’s exit last year, the site was left vacant. Now, the space is undergoing a major transformation.

An American Red Cross spokesperson shared that an anonymous donor generously provided the Eastern Boulevard building. This gift allows the organization to relocate its donation center from its current Central East Alabama Chapter location at 5015 Woods Crossing.

Officials note that the move offers a big upgrade for local operations:

  • Better visibility: A prime storefront location along one of Montgomery’s busiest retail corridors makes giving blood far more convenient and accessible.
  • Right-sized layout: The space will better support the donation center’s specific layout and operational needs.

Renovations are already underway, with completion expected in January 2027. A huge thank you to the anonymous donor and the American Red Cross for stepping up to save lives while giving new purpose to an existing retail space!

Positioned along heavy traffic on Eastern Boulevard, the upcoming center joins a growing hub of donation facilities along the same stretch:

  • Octapharma Plasma – 1534 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36117
  • CSL Plasma – 4049 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36116

Whether you are a longtime donor or considering giving for the first time, this new location will make rolling up your sleeves in the River Region easier than ever.
