Montgomery is getting some major national love! Season 2 of MLB Network’s hit travelogue, “Grass Routes,” just rolled into town and our very own Montgomery Biscuits are taking center stage.

Hosted by MLB Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo, the docuseries celebrates the unique vibes of Minor League Baseball cities, showing how local teams are deeply woven into the fabric of their communities. Episode 3 of the new season officially put a national spotlight on the best food, culture and sports that the Capital City has to offer.

The crew went behind the scenes to capture the essence of our city—capturing everything from iconic local eats to powerful historical landmarks.

Top Tampa Bay Rays prospects hit up local Montgomery restaurants

What’s a trip to Montgomery without incredible food? The episode follows Mayo as he grabs breakfast at Hero Doughnuts and Buns, which recently closed, with a trio of top Tampa Bay Rays prospects: outfielder Homer Bush Jr., second baseman Cooper Kinney and Biscuits shortstop Brayden Taylor.

But the culinary tour didn’t stop at breakfast. Later in the episode, MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospect and right-handed pitcher Brody Hopkins met up at the world-renowned Dreamland BBQ to talk baseball over some of the most mouth-watering ribs the South has to offer.

Experiencing a moving Montgomery civil rights tour

Grass Routes is about much more than just what happens on the diamond at Riverwalk Stadium, which has since been renamed DABOS Park. After fueling up on sweet treats, the prospects and film crew took a deeper dive into the historical significance of our city by taking a moving and educational civil rights tour, highlighting the profound history that anchors Montgomery.

The show also featured a scenic morning stroll along Riverfront Park on the banks of the Alabama River, featuring Marlins southpaw and fellow Top 100 prospect Thomas White.
