Preparing for Spring 2027: How to register for Montgomery Catfish tryouts

Ever dreamed of playing pro football? Here is your shot: registration has officially launched for the River Region’s newest indoor football franchise, the Montgomery Catfish.

Team officials are giving athletes an early head start before the October event, giving prospective players ample time to handle travel logistics and get game-ready for the team’s inaugural campaign in the American Arena League.

Here is what you need to know to get registered before spots fill up.

17 Springs hosting tryouts for Montgomery’s indoor football team

Clear your schedule for Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026! The Montgomery Catfish tryouts will be held at the premier 17 Springs sports complex in Millbrook. Not only does the facility offer an ideal setting for highlight-reel media, but it also provides athletes with a professional-grade gridiron to compete at the highest level.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of head coach Julius Gregory joining the program, as he prepares the organization for its debut run in the AAL. Coach Gregory and his staff will be evaluating talent on-site, scouting for players ready to make an immediate statement on the turf.

Whether you’re fresh out of college, playing semi-pro or an unsigned free agent, the team says every single position on the field is open. However, coaches have made it clear: this isn’t an event where everyone gets a trophy—contracts will be offered on the spot to elite outliers who dominate.

How to lock in your Montgomery Catfish pre-registration

Pre-registration for $60 guarantees your spot on the field, whereas day-of registration is $70 with no space guaranteed. Online payment processing is launching soon. Until then, athletes can email Montgomery Catfish team management directly to be added to the official pre-registration list.

Event details:

• Date: Saturday, Oct. 3
• Time: Check-in at 8AM | Tryouts run 9AM–12PM
• Location: 17 Springs — 2021 AL-14, Millbrook
• Fee: $60 pre-registration ($70 day-of, space permitting)
• Eligibility: 18+ on tryout day, high school diploma or equivalent and medically cleared for full-contact football

What you’ll be tested on:

• Speed + agility: 40-yard dash (2 attempts) and 20-yard shuttle / 5-10-5 (2 attempts)
• Position work: Skill drills, OL/DL blitz pickup, and 2-3 step quick burst drills
• Live competition: 1-on-1s, 2-on-2s, 3-on-3s, full pass skelly and controlled scrimmages

Be sure to bring cleats, turf shoes, and a ready-to-work mindset. Participants must sign a waiver at check-in.
