Popular Montgomery vegan spot Plant Bae to close after 6 years

Plant Bae, a locally owned fast-casual vegan restaurant, is preparing to serve its final plant-based meals to the community after six years of service.
The popular downtown Montgomery staple has announced it will permanently close its doors at 175 Lee St. on Saturday, Aug. 22.
A downtown Montgomery favorite for plant-based flavor
Since opening in May 2020, owner and founder Dr. Quebe “Que” Merritt has built Plant Bae into a local favorite by serving house-made lunch and dinner items to the community. From plant-based nachos and burgers to loaded bowls, the fast-casual spot proved that vegan food could be both accessible and delicious right in the heart of downtown.
Whether catering to longtime plant-based eaters or inviting curious first-timers to try something new, Merritt created a warm and go-to gathering spot on Lee Street.
Why Plant Bae in downtown Montgomery is closing
In a Facebook post shared with customers, Dr. Quebe “Que” Merritt reflected on the journey and expressed gratitude to the community for six years of support:
“Since opening our doors in May 2020, you have allowed us to do something truly special. You tried vegan food for the first time. You brought your families and friends. You celebrated with us, shared our name, voted for us, encouraged us, and continued to show up. Because of you, Plant Bae grew from an idea into a beloved part of our community, and I will always be grateful.”
The decision to close comes as Dr. Que Merritt shifts focus toward personal priorities and future opportunities, sharing that the choice was made to “create more space for my children, my family, and the opportunities ahead.”
While the brick-and-mortar location is coming to an end, Merritt hinted that this might not be the final chapter for the brand, encouraging fans to keep following for updates:
“The restaurant may be closing, but the heart, creativity, and mission behind Plant Bae remain. We’re making room to see what this beloved brand might become next.”
If you want to grab one last meal before the doors close, Plant Bae is open Thursday through Saturday from 11AM-7PM.
