Parchment & Potions, Prattville’s new indie bookstore, opens Oct. 11
Reading time: 2 minutes

Parchment & Potions, a new independent bookstore in Prattville, is days away from its big grand opening celebration.
The business will begin welcoming readers on Sunday, Oct. 11. Doors open at 11AM and the storefront is located at 119 1st St. The grand opening was pushed back a day due to potential impacts from Hurricane Isaias.
The new bookstore is described as wrapped in an immersive atmosphere inspired by dark academia and fantasy.
Filling Prattville’s literary void

The path to Parchment & Potions opening this brick-and-mortar shop has been a true labor of love. Owner Susan Johnson shared the inspiration behind the project on GoFundMe, noting that Prattville lost its local bookstore when Books-A-Million left. She wanted to bring back a place where people can rediscover their love of stories and connect with others who share their passion.
Initially, the creators utilized profits made from their website to help fund the opening of a physical location in Prattville. Now, that storefront vision is finally becoming a reality.
“Parchment & Potions was born from a love of stories and a belief in community,” shared the team behind the shop. “We’re part bookshop, part potion merchant, and fully devoted to creating a space where readers, dreamers, and seekers feel at home.”
