Paddle up: New pickleball courts coming to Tallassee

Game on, Tallassee! Brand-new pickleball courts are on the way to serve up some fun and friendly competition.
The city is giving a local recreation space a major upgrade by taking out an old tennis court near the outdoor swimming pool at the parks and recreation site located at 605 Redden Ave.
Approved plans for new pickleball courts in Tallassee
During its most recent meeting, the Tallassee City Council unanimously approved the motion for the $46,730 project, paving the way for construction to move forward.
The mayor shared that crews will tear down the old fence and repave the surface before painting the new tennis and pickleball court boundaries.
While the location currently houses two tennis courts, updated plans call for one tennis court and three brand-new pickleball courts. Plus, a dividing fence will be added between the two areas to keep matches organized.
Pickleball popularity fuels new Tallassee park updates
The upcoming installation of these pickleball courts comes as no surprise given the sport’s explosive rise nationwide. Pickleball continues to stand out as one of the fastest-growing sports in the country by blending key elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Its quick learning curve, low barrier to entry and highly social atmosphere make it a hit for players of all ages.
While an exact completion timeframe wasn’t immediately announced for the community, work is expected to begin soon on the fresh new layout.
