New recognition: Alabama debuts the Kay Ivey Office Building

The facility that houses the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in downtown Montgomery now bears a new name: The Kay Ivey Office Building.
Located in the heart of the state capitol complex, the newly designated complex honors Governor Ivey’s record-setting tenure in state leadership.
A new name for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office
Crews officially installed the name on the building on Wednesday, Aug. 6. The transformation comes following the passage of House Joint Resolution 253 by the Alabama Legislature in April 2026, officially designating the state complex as the Kay Ivey Office Building.
Located at 501 Washington Avenue, the facility sits at the center of downtown Montgomery’s government hub—just south of the Alabama State Capitol and west of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, near the Alabama State House. Until now, the state property carried no official name.
Honoring a record-setting tenure in Alabama politics
In the legislative resolution, lawmakers highlighted Gov. Ivey’s historic milestone as the longest-serving female governor in American history. Gov. Ivey is also Alabama’s longest consecutively serving governor.
She assumed office in April 2017 following the resignation of former Gov. Robert Bentley. Her current and final term as governor will conclude on Jan. 18, 2027, making the naming of the Kay Ivey Office Building a lasting tribute to Alabama’s 54th governor.
