New look: Midtown Montgomery Walmart set for summer remodel

Walmart is spending the summer remodeling its supercenter in midtown Montgomery, marking the only River Region location slated for a new look in 2026.

A grand reopening for the high-traffic location in Midtown Plaza at 851 Ann St. is set for Friday, Aug. 7. In the meantime, the store remains open for regular operating hours throughout the entire remodel process.

The Ann Street Walmart location in Montgomery is among about a dozen across the state and roughly 650 companywide to get renovated this year.

The retailer says this big wave of investments is intended to “create jobs, help strengthen local economies, and make shopping faster and more convenient for our customers.”

“Our goal is simple: we want shopping to feel easy, intuitive, and connected while continuing to deliver the everyday low prices our customers expect.”

What’s new at Walmart on Ann Street in Montgomery?

In addition to sporting a refreshed interior, updated exterior, and the new Walmart logo, local shoppers can look forward to major layout and technology upgrades.

According to Walmart corporate plans, the upcoming changes to the midtown Montgomery location will include:

  • Wider aisles and updated layouts designed to reduce foot traffic bottlenecks
  • New displays and expanded assortments across top departments
  • Expanded pickup and delivery services, including brand-new express delivery options for faster home arrival
  • Updated vision centers and pharmacies that now include private consultation rooms for patient privacy
  • New digital touchpoints throughout the floor, helping bring Walmart’s online assortment right into the physical shopping experience
  • Refreshed landscaping and improved parking lot structures

The company is also using these physical upgrades to enable smoother integrations with the Walmart app, giving local shoppers access to faster store-navigation maps and quick checkout options like Walmart Pay.
