If you live on the east side of Montgomery County and have been wondering when probate services would return to your area, we have good news!

Montgomery County Commission Chairman Doug Singleton has confirmed that the brand-new east Montgomery satellite probate office is scheduled to open its doors in summer 2027.

The upcoming facility will be located at 6261 Atlanta Hwy. near the Bell Road intersection.

Here is what you need to know about the new site purchase, future services and current operational locations.

The property selected for the future east satellite probate office previously housed an O’Reilly Auto Parts store and adjacent commercial spaces. Commuters on Atlanta Highway may have noticed that neighboring tenants have already vacated the building to make way for the project.

According to commission-approved purchase and sale agreement documents, Montgomery County bought the roughly 18,000-square-foot building and surrounding land for $1.4 million earlier this year. Renovations will take place before the location welcomes the public in next summer.

You may recall that the former east side satellite probate office previously operated out of Montgomery East Plaza at 5449 Atlanta Hwy. That location closed in Fall 2025. Faulkner University, which has owned the property since 2020, continues to redevelop the plaza for institutional use.

Once renovation work is complete, the east Montgomery satellite probate office will bring vital community resources back to the area, including:

  • Motor vehicle tags + vehicle titles
  • Boat registration renewals
  • Driver’s license services
  • Online tag + license renewal support

Chairman Singleton also noted that the county plans to partner with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to incorporate a driver’s license precinct inside the expanded building.

Until the new facility opens, residents needing motor vehicle or licensing assistance can visit one of the county’s other active offices:

Residents can also complete many routine tag renewals and probate tasks online via the Montgomery County Probate Court Portal.
