New downtown Montgomery parking deck work prompts detours through 2027

Construction on a new downtown Montgomery parking deck is officially underway, bringing immediate road closures and traffic detours through 2027.
Drivers traveling through this area should prepare for changes to their daily commute as work begins on the structure supporting the Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority (ABRFA).

New downtown Montgomery parking deck details + scope
Located at 924 Madison Ave., the new ABRFA structure will rise on property that was last used as a state worker parking lot.
According to public bidding records released earlier this year, the development involves constructing a 327,897-square-foot, five-story cast-in-place concrete deck. Once completed, the facility will add more than 900 parking spaces to the downtown grid to support state personnel. Contractor Stone Builders was awarded the primary construction project.
Downtown Montgomery traffic detours + long-term road closures
City officials advise drivers that road closures and active construction are projected to stay in place through November 2027.
While the project is underway, the following street segments are completely closed to through traffic:
- Hilliard St. from Madison Ave. to Monroe St.
- Monroe St. from N. Jackson St. to Hilliard St.
A full traffic control plan complete with marked detour routes has been established to guide motorists safely around the active construction zone. Drivers are encouraged to build extra travel time into their routines, expect lingering delays during peak commute hours and seek alternative routes through downtown whenever possible.
