Coffee wars are continuing to brew in the River Region as Dutch Bros Coffee prepares to open its first Montgomery location.

The popular drive-thru coffee chain confirmed it will open at 3945 Atlanta Highway. This area is near the Publix-anchored Dalraida Commons.

Dutch Bros will join Wingstop as a co-tenant in the former Wells Fargo bank branch. City planning documents confirm the brand will renovate the currently vacant part of the building, including the bank’s former drive-thru, making the perfect use of a pre-existing space. This would be a rarity for the chain, which usually has its own standalone coffee shops.

Construction crews are already on-site, gutting the interior and retrofitting the former bank to accommodate the new coffee shop, which will include two drive-thru lanes.

This new Dutch Bros location in Montgomery will put the chain head-to-head with rival Starbucks, which is just a few hundred feet away.

“We are in the very early stages for this location,” a Dutch Bros spokesperson said, adding that an opening timeline was not yet available.

Dutch Bros. serves up a variety of specialty drinks, including:

  • Specialty coffee: Espresso drinks, cold brews and blended freezes
  • Energy drinks: The brand’s signature “Rebel” energy drinks infused with various fruit flavors
  • Non-coffee options: Teas, lemonades, smoothies and hot cocoa

The brand’s first Alabama location opened nearly three years ago in Decatur. Several others have opened since that time, including Prattville and Alabaster.

Montgomery Up will continue to track the site’s progress and let you know when an official opening date is announced.
