Montgomery Zoo’s new admissions complex opens to guests Sept. 15

The Montgomery Zoo is opening its doors to a brand-new, modern entryway starting Tuesday, Sept. 15, designed to elevate the visitor experience for guests across the River Region and beyond.
As previously reported by our sister site, The Bama Buzz, the zoo kicked off construction on the $4.2 million project in Summer 2025 to replace its previous setup. Now, after more than a year of hard work, city leaders and zoo officials are ready to celebrate the completion of this landmark improvement project.
What to expect at the upgraded Montgomery Zoo entrance
Designed by Bargainer, Davis, Williams Architects Association and built by Holley Henley Builders, the new Montgomery Zoo admissions complex brings enhanced accessibility, safety and modern comfort to the zoo’s front doors.
Key upgrades to the refreshed entryway include:
- Modernized restrooms and dedicated family facilities
- A private lactation room for nursing mothers
- Improved security measures for smooth check-ins
- Upgraded staff accommodations to better serve members and visitors
- A sleek, refreshed architectural aesthetic to welcome guests

Montgomery Zoo ribbon cutting + event details
Before it opens to the public, Mayor Steven Reed and municipal leaders will celebrate the new Montgomery Zoo venue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Sept. 14 at 11AM.
Located at 2301 Coliseum Pkwy, the zoo offers easy access and ample parking for all guests. Admission tickets can be purchased online or at the gate on the day of your visit.
