Shoppers in midtown Montgomery have something new to celebrate. Walmart store leaders and community members gathered Friday, Sept. 18 for the official grand reopening of the Ann Street location.

The store serves as a primary retail anchor for the Midtown Plaza shopping center, located at 851 Ann St., and this latest remodel fittingly coincides with its 20th anniversary of serving midtown shoppers.

While the store transformation was originally set for completion in early August, the 8 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the culmination of a massive overhaul. The celebratory event brought plenty of community fun to the plaza, featuring musical performances by the Johnson Abernathy Graetz and Percy Julian high school bands alongside a live DJ.

The store never closed its doors to customers while the months-long renovation project took place, allowing customers to keep shopping while crews worked continuously behind the scenes to deliver a more modern retail experience. According to store management, the facility was expanded by an impressive 40,000 square feet to accommodate new offerings.

Modern upgrades featured at Midtown Montgomery Walmart

This Ann Street store holds a special milestone for capital city shoppers: it is the first location in Montgomery to receive Walmart’s signature store remodel design.

The renovations weren’t limited to inside the store, either. On the outside, the exterior received a fresh paint job and features Walmart’s new logo branding, while the drive-up pickup area was relocated to the left side of the building for easier driver access and faster loading.

Step inside and you will immediately notice a completely overhauled shopping atmosphere. Upgrades across the store include:

Enhanced department displays: Refreshed produce and bakery layouts, alongside upgraded displays in apparel, home goods and electronics

Whether you are grabbing quick weeknight dinner ingredients or tackling weekend house projects, the redesigned floor plan offers a seamless experience from entrance to checkout. Wider aisles and clearer signage make it easy to find exactly what you need without backtracking.
