Where is Montgomery’s Riverfront District?

Flowing along the edge of downtown Montgomery, the Alabama River has played a key role in the capital city since its founding. Once a busy trade route, today the river is all about recreation, and the desire to provide increased access to it during downtown’s revitalization planning in the early 2000s birthed the creation of Riverfront Park.

Today, the Park offers visitors an array of activities onsite and is close—often within walking distance—to other “must-see” spots downtown, including the State Capitol, The Rosa Parks Library and Museum and the vibrant restaurants and bars in The Alley.

Start with a hearty breakfast at Mama’s Sack Lunches (which, despite the name, does serve morning-meal favorites) to fuel your exploration. Choose from breakfast sandwiches on biscuits or toast, omelets or grits bowls topped with eggs, sausage or bacon and cheese, plus piping-hot coffee.

Take advantage of Riverfront Park’s green spaces with a picnic lunch. Grab some dogs smothered in a tangy, secret-recipe sauce and crispy crinkle fries to enjoy outdoors at Chris’ Hot Dogs, which has been pleasing palates since 1917.

Or if you’re after some Southern comfort-food standards, get a to-go box from Pannie-George’s Kitchen. Choose from a rotating menu of dishes like:

  • Crisp fried chicken
  • Collard greens
  • Black-eyed peas
  • …+ more

After lunch, stroll along the riverbank via the paved Riverwalk path, and let the kids burn off some energy and cool down at the Park’s splashpad before boarding the Harriott II Riverboat. Rolling down the river on this 19th century riverboat is a memorable trip for the entire family.

The fun of a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game always scores homeruns. (Experience Montgomery)

As evening falls, head to DABOS Stadium, a modern ballpark built into a historic railway turn station, to catch a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game. As the Biscuits embark on their 2026 season, fans continue eating up the team’s stellar play on the field, the energy of mascot Big Mo, the silly between-inning antics and competitions that often pull in spectators and, of course, hot biscuits from the concession stand.

But this season also brings a few new ways to enjoy a game, including the On Deck Platform section, with dugout-level seating, its own bartender and private food service, and Food Truck Row featuring favorite local food trucks serving up the best capital city cuisine. Beloved traditions like the excitement of fireworks ending weekend games remain. And it’s all ready and waiting for you; the 2026 season started swinging on April 7.
