How the new Pike Road resurfacing + safety project may impact your commute

Pike Road drivers, it may be time to map out your morning commutes a little bit more carefully as a new, months-long road project gets underway.
Work is now underway on State Route 293 (Milly Creek Lane), where the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has started a $500,000 road improvement project. If this route is a staple of your daily routine, here is exactly what you need to know to navigate the construction.
Pike Road road work updates on SR-293
The project will target the stretch of SR-293 running from SR-126 all the way to SR-110 (Vaughn Road). The state is using a process called micro-surfacing, a cost-effective, preventative treatment used to preserve structurally sound roads and ultimately extend their lifespan.
New Jersey-based Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc. secured the project with the lowest qualifying bid. In addition to the fresh micro-surfacing, crews will be working on:
- Lying down fresh traffic striping
- Installing new guardrails
Because this area sits right on the edge of the vital Montgomery Outer Loop corridor, the upgrades are a big deal for keeping regional traffic flowing smoothly. The outer loop is designed to eventually connect I-85 to I-65 south of Montgomery, looping right past the rapidly expanding Pike Road community. As this part of the River Region continues to boom with new neighborhoods and shopping, upgrades to nearby feeder roads like SR-293 are crucial to handle the growing volume of daily commuters.
Traffic delays near Montgomery Outer Loop
With construction officially underway, drivers should prepare for temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits throughout the work zone. ALDOT urges everyone traveling through the area to slow down, stay alert, and look out for workers and heavy equipment.
