The Santuck Flea Market, a beloved Elmore County staple for five decades, is getting ready to say a fond farewell to Central Alabama shoppers and treasure hunters. Over the Labor Day holiday weekend, organizers announced that the historic market will permanently close its doors after its final market on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2027.
“It has been a great 50 year run, so it is with heavy hearts that we announce that the Santuck Flea Market will be permanently closing after the December 2027 market. (2027…..not 2026) It takes a lot of work all month long to put it on, and we just don’t have enough volunteers to manage it anymore. We still have 13 more markets, so ya’ll come see us!”

First launched in 1976, the open-air market has brought community members together on the first Saturday of every month from March through December, rain or shine, early morning through early afternoon. Located at 7300 Central Plank Road in Wetumpka, generations of families have wandered the flea market’s aisles, hunting for one-of-a-kind bargains.
What made this Elmore County staple so special
Over the years, guests visiting the Santuck Flea Market could find an ever-changing variety of unique items, ranging from hand-carved woodwork, vintage antiques and rare collectibles to fresh foods, artisanal soaps and cozy home decor. Beyond being a prime shopping destination, it served as a great opportunity for vendors to showcase their small businesses, crafts and collections to thousands of visitors.
What many shoppers might not know is that the Santuck Flea Market is a nonprofit initiative entirely operated by dedicated volunteers from the Santuck Community Center. For half a century, all funds raised from booth rentals and event support went directly toward supporting the vital work of the Santuck Volunteer Fire Department.

The good news? Shoppers and bargain hunters still have more than a year to visit, shop and say goodbye before the final Santuck Flea Market on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2027. With plenty of dates remaining between now and the grand finale on Central Plank Road, there is still ample time to support local sellers, find hidden gems and honor a true community tradition. Whether you have been coming for decades or have never been, now is the time to experience it.
