Eugene’s Hot Chicken wraps up short stint in downtown Montgomery
Reading time: 2 minutes

There is some disappointing news for the downtown Montgomery food scene. Eugene’s Hot Chicken has quietly shut down its location at 79 Commerce St., Unit 1, after less than a year in business.
The Birmingham-based hot chicken staple originally expanded into the capital city market back in October 2025.
Signs point to permanent closure for the downtown Montgomery restaurant

While it remains unclear exactly when the restaurant ceased operations, all signs point to a recent + permanent departure. As of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the business’ online profile was still listed as open, but the Montgomery storefront has been completely wiped from the official company website. An employee at the Hoover location confirmed the closure to Montgomery UP.
A call to the Montgomery location goes straight to an automated voicemail stating, “The person you called is not available.”
The main exterior signage remains on the building alongside a handwritten note on the door reading, “Sorry we’re closed today.” However, a look inside the windows suggests a much more permanent reality:
- Some customer seating has been completely cleared out
- Menu boards have been taken down
- Wall-mounted televisions have been removed
Eugene’s Hot Chicken is, unfortunately, the latest restaurant to experience a short stint at this specific downtown address. Its immediate predecessor, Krab Kingz, also had a brief run, while the space’s originally planned tenant, Burgerim, never opened its doors.
Where to get your Eugene’s Hot Chicken fix moving forward

If you are still craving that signature Eugene’s heat, you are not entirely out of luck—though you will have to plan a bit of a road trip to get it.
The brand’s flagship locations remain fully operational. You can still get your fix at their Birmingham-area restaurants:
- Downtown Birmingham (2268 9th Ave N)
- Hoover (1021 Brock’s Gap Pkwy)
