Who is Dominique Wilkins?
Dominique Wilkins, known as the “Human Highlight Film,” played college basketball at Georgia before becoming the third overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft.
Over his 15-year career, Wilkins racked up plenty of accolades including:
- 9x NBA All-Star
- 7x All-NBA
- 2x NBA Slam Dunk Champion
- NBA scoring champion (1986)
He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and he was named to the NBA 75th anniversary team in 2021. He has a statue located outside State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Alabama State hopes the addition of Wilkins will mark a significant step forward for the university’s basketball operations.
“Wilkins’ impact extends well beyond his Hall of Fame playing career. After leaving the court, he built an equally distinguished career as a professional, and he embodies the very attributes we hope our student-athletes will carry with them: excellence, integrity, and a commitment to others. His passion for educating young people, his knowledge and experience in basketball at the highest level, and his genuine willingness to give back make him ideal for our program. We are proud to welcome him to the Hornet family.”

This isn’t the first time Wilkins has invested his post-playing career to Alabama. He also serves as the Board Chairman for KultureCity and is a part owner of Birmingham Legion FC.
