Chuck Knapp to lead new Faulkner flag football program

Faulkner University is tapping a familiar face to lead its newest athletic venture. The Montgomery institution has announced that Chuck Knapp will serve as the inaugural head coach of the Faulkner flag football program, set to begin competition in the 2027-28 academic year.
Knapp is no stranger to the Eagles community, having spent over two decades at his alma mater. Between 2007 and 2019, he served in multiple capacities within the university’s tackle football program, including linebackers coach, defensive line coach and director of football operations. During his tenure, he helped guide the Eagles to two Mid-South Conference championships while coaching 19 All-Conference selections.
Laying the foundation for Faulkner flag football’s future
Chuck Knapp brings direct experience launching flag football programs to his new role. While serving as athletic director and head football coach at Georgia Christian School from 2019 to 2024, he helped introduce flag football to the institution, leading the team to a state championship appearance in just its second season.
Now, Knapp turns his focus to recruiting student-athletes to campus as he builds the foundation for the Faulkner flag football team.

Expanding women’s college athletics in Montgomery
Faulkner University first announced the addition of women’s flag football in May, marking its 13th varsity sport. The move places the college alongside local peer institutions like Alabama State University and Huntingdon College in offering the fast-growing sport.
The Eagles will join the Southern States Athletic Conference when competition kicks off, with home games taking place right here in the capital city.
