Hana Mart is coming to east Montgomery: What to know

A long-vacant anchor space in east Montgomery is finally getting a new lease on life.

Hana Mart, an Asian grocery store, is opening soon at the Bellwood Shoppes.

Hana Mart fills a 17-year vacancy in east Montgomery

Longtime Montgomery residents will likely remember this 54,000-square-foot space at the intersection of Bell and Vaughn Roads as one of the capital city’s final Bruno’s grocery stores, which also included a SouthTrust Bank inside.

The space has sat empty since Bruno’s was liquidated and closed all remaining locations in 2009. Over the last 17 years, multiple signs have gone up promising various Korean-focused grocery concepts, but none ever came to fruition—until now.

Driven largely by Hyundai’s sustained presence and economic impact in the River Region, Montgomery has experienced a surge in its Korean population.

While international flavors will lead the way, Kim noted that the grocery store will also carry a wide variety of American and Hispanic products to serve all Montgomery shoppers.

When is Hana Mart opening in Montgomery?

Construction crews are already hard at work preparing the interior and the building sports a fresh new facade. While an official grand opening date hasn’t been locked down just yet, leadership expects Hana Mart to open its doors later this year.
