The new Hornet Golf Clubhouse has officially opened at Alabama State University, bringing one of the first HBCU on-campus golf facilities to Montgomery.

Earlier this month, the university held a grand opening celebration at the 3,000-square foot facility located across from the Houston Markham Football Complex.

“We will be among the first HBCUs to have a facility like this located on our campus. What we are unveiling is the result of a collective vision by ASU’s leadership team to help us train and develop scholar golf-athletes and generate interest among student-golfers nationwide to join Hornet Nation.”

Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., ASU President

The ribbon-cutting celebration brought together members of the golf team as well as community and city leaders. Everyone got to explore the new facility which includes:

  • High-tech golf simulation range
  • Putting green
  • Locker rooms
  • Lounge
  • Study area
  • Coaches’ offices

Ross praised the vision that began in 2020 with Coach Quincy Heard’s belief in elevating the golf program and noted how the clubhouse will attract talent and build a lasting championship culture.

“This is a state-of-the-art facility that is rare not only among HBCUs but across Division I programs. Our golf clubhouse and training facility will add tremendous value to the student-athlete experience at Alabama State. Golf is a global sport that extends far beyond graduation and plays a major role in professional and social environments. This facility will allow us to continue preparing our student-athletes for success both on and off the course.”

Dr. Jason Cable, ASU Director of Athletics

The clubhouse is also expected to support the university’s “CommUniversity” initiative by fostering engagement with the Montgomery community.
