
For the first time in the 105-year history of the AHSAA, the Central Board of Control will have a female president.
Kim Kiel, who has served as vice president the previous two years, was unanimously elected during Wednesday’s meeting in Montgomery. She has also previously served as interim president for a meeting earlier this year.
District 8 representative Brian Jett, the Superintendent of Fort Payne City Schools, was elected unanimously as the CBOC vice president.

Kim Kiel
Kiel, who is currently the Pelham City Schools Assistant Superintendent, was inducted into the AHSAA Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026 earlier this year. She has previously served as the Board’s District 5 representative.
While she was born in New York, Kiel moved to Alabama and graduated from Northview High School in Dothan. She went on to earn degrees from Faulkner State Junior College and UAB.
She has been at Pelham since 1999 when she started as the girls’ basketball coach. Other roles for the Panthers have included:
- Volleyball head coach
- Athletic Director
- Principal
- Assistant Superintendent
In 2018, Kiel was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA). She has received Coach of the Year and Principal of the Year honors and was selected to the Pelham High School Hall of Fame in 2024.
Kiel has also served as a basketball official for the AHSAA as well as at various college levels including officiating in Division I, II and III, the National Association of Intercollege Athletics, and junior college. She was a contest official for 2015 NCAA Division II women’s Final Four.
Kiel is on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Sports Officials Foundation.
The new officers will officially begin their one-year tenures at the July CBOC meeting, which is scheduled for July 29, 2026.
