Acme Brick to close Montgomery plant: 53 jobs lost by New Year’s Eve
Reading time: 2 minutes

Building supplier Acme Brick has filed notice that it will close a Montgomery facility later this year, putting 53 employees out of work.
According to a formal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with Workforce Alabama, the planned operational shutdown is set for Thursday, Dec. 31.
Acme Brick’s Montgomery footprint + local history

Acme Brick produces and distributes brick, masonry supplies and related construction materials across the country. In the capital city, the company currently maintains two facilities: a manufacturing plant located at 1228 N. McDonough St. and a retail showroom located at 10200 US-80.
The company first established its presence at those local sites in 2011 when it acquired Montgomery-based Jenkins Brick & Tile Co.. This landmark business operated in the River Region for more than a century.
Although the state regulatory notification did not specify which local site is closing, a call to the Montgomery retail store confirmed that the North McDonough Street plant will close.

Meanwhile, the retail showroom on Hwy. 80 will remain open, though it will still be impacted by broader corporate shifts. Store representatives confirmed the location will stop selling tile as that division is shut down, though an exact timeline was not immediately available.
The local manufacturing closure follows similar operational cuts elsewhere: KAIT 8 News reported that Acme Brick is also closing a manufacturing plant in Jonesboro, Arkansas, pointing to a broader restructuring of the company’s production facilities.
Outside Montgomery, the company also operates a manufacturing plant in Leeds, Alabama, along with nine retail centers statewide.
53 jobs affected in latest Montgomery facility closure

The Acme Brick closure announcement marks the second major industrial loss announced for the area in recent days. Agricultural distributor The Andersons Inc. recently announced the permanent closure of its sole Alabama facility in Montgomery by Dec. 2, cutting 64 positions. Between both companies, more than 110 industrial jobs will be eliminated in the River Region before Jan. 1.
